An assessment involves discussions with parents and the client, together and separately. In a first assessment I will meet with the client and their parents. For follow up sessions, one parent should be present so that we can discuss feedback and the way forward. Once a diagnosis is established as well as the aggravating factors contributing to the mental health challenges of the client, I will recommend a treatment plan. A treatment plan may include some or all of the following: an additional assessment, the use of medication in moderate to severe presentations of psychiatric illness, referral for Psychotherapy of various formats, recommendations for family therapy, referral to a dietitian or social worker, liaison with the school, and, if needed, recommendations for in-patient treatment where I supervise the care of my patients.<\/p>\n
